Kingfisher Developments is proud to be a delivery partner on an exciting new housing scheme designed to meet vital housing needs in Blaenau Gwent. The development, led by Tai Calon and located on the former Glan-yr-Afon Court site, is supported by the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant and the Strategic Housing Team at Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.

The scheme will provide 14 newly built, energy-efficient homes with full planning approval. These include:

• 2 fully accessible bungalows designed for wheelchair users

• 4 modern apartments

• 8 spacious houses, all built to the Lifetime Homes Standard, allowing for adaptability to meet residents’ changing needs over time.

Sustainability and efficiency are key drivers of the project. Tai Calon has set a high bar, aiming for an EPC ‘A’ rating across all units. The homes are being constructed using closed-panel timber frames, an advanced modern method of construction that enhances both energy performance and speed of delivery. Additional green technologies include photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, domestic battery storage, and electric hot water systems—all working together to reduce carbon emissions and lower energy bills for future tenants.

In addition to the homes themselves, the development embraces a forward-thinking approach to landscaping. Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) are being implemented to manage water runoff, improve biodiversity, and create a greener, more resilient living environment.

Construction officially commenced on April 15, marking a significant step toward Tai Calon’s goal of delivering 200 high-quality homes by the end of 2025, as set out in their 2020 Corporate Plan.
