We are delighted to announce the successful completion of the Old Sorting Office project in Treorchy, a key milestone for Kingfisher Developments that reflects our commitment to quality, resilience, and innovation in construction.

🕒 Duration: 24 months

🛠️ Scope: Full renovation and redevelopment of a former Royal Mail sorting office into 9 high-quality residential flats

This ambitious project presented a unique set of challenges—both technically and logistically. The site combined new-build elements with retained existing structures, requiring a careful balance between modern construction techniques and heritage sensitivity. Ground gas contamination was identified and mitigated during early phases, adding a layer of complexity to the groundwork.

The location itself brought additional hurdles: situated directly on a busy high street and above and adjacent to a live post office, the site demanded precise coordination, planning, and health and safety management throughout every stage of development.

We are especially proud of Gavin, who successfully led this scheme as his first major project as site manager. His attention to detail and leadership under pressure were instrumental to the project’s smooth delivery. In fact, the client’s Clerk of Works praised the build quality as “exceptional,” with only minimal snagging issues—a true testament to the standard of work delivered.

The transformation of the Old Sorting Office has not only added much-needed housing to the area but also revitalised a well-known local landmark, blending contemporary living with Treorchy’s character and charm.
